There is no country in the world where the press has seized absolute power and muzzled the pofiticians" I -David Brinkley Bertha Silvas Rivera August 1, 1930 December 9, 2008 Bertha Silvas Rivera, 78, passed away in Mesa Tuesday, Dec. 9. She was born in Superior Aug. 1, 1930, and was known as a virtuous and very wise homemaker throughout the community. Also blessed with tremendous strength, Mrs. Rivera possessed the gift of hospitality which she displayed in many ways, particularly through her cooking. She also enjoyed ceramic endeavors and spent much time reading and the best of her minutes with her grandchildren. Survivors include children, Edward J. Silvas, of Tucson, Ramona Rivera of Superior, Diane Reyes of Mesa, Rebecca Salazar of Superior, Vir.ginia Coughran of Superior, Ruben Silvas of Superior and Ygnacio Silvas, of Superior. There are 26 grandchildren and 30-plus great grandchildren. Abrother, Ruben E. Silvas of San Manuel also survives. Rosary was recited Saturday Dec. 13 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Superior, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Fr. Francis lber. Superior Funeral Home assisted the family. The Pinal County Sheriff's Report is taken from the daffy logs, based on the information provided by deputies. All persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Dec. 12 Jerome Jay Palacio, 49, Queen Valley, was arrested in the area of the Queen Valley Golf Club, Queen Valley, on a child support warrant and two failure to appear warrants. He Was transported and booked into the Pinal County Jail in Florence. Dec. 13 Theft of a license plate was reported in the area of North Charlotte Street, Queen Valley. Dec. 14 Theft of trash was reported in the area of West Morris Drive, Queen Valley. The reporting party was concerned because it contained shredded personal documents. Dec. 14 Danny E. Hicks, 60, Queen Valley, was arrested in the area of Queen Valley Road and Highway 60 and charged with two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of disorderly conduct involving a weapon and one count of unlawful flight from law enforcement. He was transported and booked into the Pinal County Jail.
