Box 579 (366 Alden Rd.), Kearny, AZ 85237 (520)363-5554 SERVING SUPERIOR SUTTONS SUMMIT AND QUEEN VALLEY The 257 Fire, which started on Sunday, June 10, burned heavily for about six days and burned approximately 2,860 acres, is now 85 percent contained. The fire began about three miles south of Superior just east of State Highway 177. The fire grew and spread northeast and crested the top of Apache Leap on Monday, June 11. Once the fire reached the top of the mountain crews were then fighting the fire closer to the Oak Flat Campgrounds and Resolution Copper operations. On Friday, there was very little fire activity in the 257 fire area, firefighters stayed . in the area patrolling and continuing mop up and rehabilitation of lands disturbed during the fire suppression efforts. With the fire dying down and reaching containment, the crews began to demobilize and break down their command center at the Superior Unified School District.
