Page 4 Superior Sun, Superior, Arizona June 20, 2012 FREE- summer recreation acl:ivities to begin tomorrow The Town of Superior is pleased to announce their summer calendar of events. With the support of RICO funds donated to the Town of Superior from Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu and Pinal County Attorney Jim Walsh all of these activities will be FREE to the public. Musie in the Park - Local musicians David Martinez and Eric Smith will have jam sessions every Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Besich Park. On Thursday, June 28, and Thursday, July 26, there will be an ice cream social for all those in attendance. Please bring your lawn chair to the park. Zumba & Hip Hop Classes - Local Zumba and dance instructor Sonya Chamerlain will be instructing one hour Zumba Classes on Saturday mornings at 9 a.m. She will also be teaching one hour Hip-Hop classes for children at 10:15 a.m. The Hip-Hop students will be preparing to perform for the community Fourth of July Events. These classes will be FREE to the public for Six weeks beginning June 16 through July 25. Pre-Reg!stration is encouraged for Hip-Hop Lessons; a liability waiver must be signed by an adult for participation. Summer Fun Day Camp - In conjunction with the free breakfast and lunch program at the Superior Unified School District the Town of Superior will conduct an eight-day summer day camp for children in grades K-6. The program begins with free breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Each day will be a different theme and will include fun games, activities, arts and crafts, snacks and lunch. Children can use bus transportation provided by the school or parents may drop them off at the Sulerior Junior Senior High Multipurpose Room. Please contact Town Hall at 199 Lobb Avenue, or via telephone at 520-689- 5752. The program will run June 18-21 and June 25-28. Dominique Castillo and Manuel Ortega will be the program instructors. Those registering on the day of a program will need an adult to mgn necessary permission slips. Dive In Movie Nights - New to the pool schedule this year is two family friendly Dive In Movie Nights. On Wednesday, June 20, bring your pool floats or noodles and dive in the pool to enjoy the movie Super 8. On July 11, The Goonies will be the dive in movie for the month. The pool will be open from 7-10 p.m. for the movie nights. Light refreshments will be provided. This event is also being coordinated with support from the Superior Optimist and Rotary Clubs. Teen Dance Nights -On Thursday, July 19, join Sup.erior's own Angle Gomez and the Manic Hispanic for a teens only Luau Pool Party and dance. Refreshments will be provided for the participants. This year the fireworks will be shot off from the Kennedy School. Most of the day's activities will be held at the Superior Aquatics Center and Skate Park and will finish at the Superior Memorial Football Field for the fireworks finale. Part of the fourth of July festivities will include a cake decorating contest. Participants can decorate a cake to celebrate either the Arizona Centennial or Fourth of July. Cakes will be-judged on the artistic design, taste, and theme. Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place winners for each theme. Cakes will need to be registered by 5:30 p.m. on the Fourth of July at the Superior Pool/Skate Park. The Superior Substance Abuse Coalition has also been assisting with providing information and assistance to the planning of the many activities for the summer. With their help all of the activities will be drug and alcohol free. Additional activities and field trips are being scheduled and coordinated the details will be advertised as they become available.
